This year, there is considerable confusion regarding the date of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The biggest reason behind this is its Ashtami date, which starts on the night of August 15 at 11:49 PM and ends on the night of August 16 at 9:34 PM. According to scholars, the Udaya Kal (the time of sunrise) of Ashtami is considered, so it will be appropriate to observe the fast and celebrate Janmashtami on August 16.
When Is Rohini Constellation in 2025
Lord Krishna was born under the Rohini constellation. This time, Rohini will not be present on the date of Janmashtami. This constellation will be from 4:38 AM on the 17th to 3:17 AM on the 18th. However, since the date is considered primary, the fast will have to be observed on August 16.
Shri Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 16.
On August 15, the seventh date will occur during the auspicious time. The eighth date will begin at 11:49 PM. Therefore, fasting should not be observed on that day. The scriptures instruct to abandon the eighth date along with the seventh. Based on this, it is best to observe fasting, worship, and celebrations on the full auspicious occasion of the eighth on the 16th. Meanwhile, Janmashtami will also be celebrated on the 16th at the ISKCON temple in Ujjain. The festival will also be celebrated on the 16th at the Sakshi Gopal temple located within the Mahakaleshwar temple premises.
The Story Behind the Celebration
Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, in Mathura over 5,200 years ago. Born to Devaki and Vasudeva in a prison cell under the tyrannical rule of his maternal uncle King Kansa, Krishna’s birth was a miraculous event, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. His childhood exploits, his playful nature as “Makhan Chor” (butter thief), and his profound teachings in the Bhagavad Gita continue to inspire generations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krishna
